Job Summary

The City of Amarillo, Texas is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate WIC Breastfeeding Specialist to join our team. As a WIC Breastfeeding Specialist, you will play a vital role in educating pregnant women and new mothers on the benefits of breastfeeding, assisting with breastfeeding techniques, and conducting breastfeeding classes in various settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Educate pregnant women and their families on the benefits of breastfeeding
  • Assist new mothers with breastfeeding techniques
  • Conduct breastfeeding classes in person, via Zoom, and in community settings
  • Assist WIC Nutritionists with breastfeeding consultations for WIC participants
  • Instruct WIC breastfeeding participants on the use of breast pumps, when necessary
  • Maintain logs and inventory of breastfeeding supplies and equipment
  • Interview clients and determine their income eligibility for the WIC program
  • Issue food benefits according to diet prescriptions and file duplicate copies
  • Schedule appointments and follow up on missed and future appointments
  • Answer a multi-line telephone system and process calls efficiently
  • Contact participants via text and phone to upload documents and assist with the process
  • Obtain height, weight, and finger stick blood work on clients
  • Present a hospitality, customer-centered, and caring attitude

Qualifications

  • Passion for breastfeeding and sharing knowledge with others
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Computer skills and ability to learn complex software programs
  • Ability to comprehend and apply governmental regulations
  • Willingness to work in various WIC clinics and adapt to changing situations
