WIC Technician II/Breastfeeding Peer Counselor

The City of Amarillo, Texas is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate WIC Technician II/Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to join our team. As a WIC Technician II/Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, you will play a vital role in promoting breastfeeding and providing essential services to pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children enrolled in the WIC program.
Key Responsibilities- Provide education and support to pregnant women and their families on the benefits of breastfeeding.
- Assist new mothers with breastfeeding techniques and conduct breastfeeding classes in person, via Zoom, and in various community settings.
- Collaborate with WIC Nutritionists to provide breastfeeding consultations and support to WIC participants.
- Maintain accurate logs and inventory of breastfeeding supplies and equipment.
- Interview clients to determine their income eligibility for enrollment in the WIC program and issue food benefits accordingly.
- Schedule appointments, follow up on missed and future appointments, and provide exceptional customer service.
- Must have breastfed or expressed breastmilk for at least one baby.
- Ability to work outside of regular clinic hours and outside of the WIC clinic.
- Compete the paraprofessional training for the WIC Peer Counselor.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; prefer some college courses.
- Minimum of one year of clerical experience; two years preferred.
- Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
