We are seeking a dedicated individual for a part-time role in Fallon, NV, contributing to the advancement of health.

POSITION OVERVIEW
This role supports technical laboratory personnel and may involve the collection, receipt, and processing of biological samples within the department. Responsibilities include preparing specimens for analytical testing and potentially conducting waived or limited moderate complexity testing, contingent upon meeting CLIA minimum standards or as authorized by the CLIA Medical Director. This position reports to departmental leadership and receives guidance from senior technical staff.

All tasks are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and applicable professional benchmarks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. May handle and prepare patient samples as necessary, which includes: 1) specimen collection with a focus on accurate patient and specimen identification and integrity 2) general laboratory specimen processing and 3) referral laboratory processing. May conduct waived and moderate complexity testing under direct supervision while adhering to performance standards and knowledge levels for approved testing. Demonstrates proficiency with the computer systems utilized in the department. Monitors and tracks missing specimens while managing pending lists. Conducts maintenance on laboratory equipment as instructed. Ensures compliance with accrediting agency and regulatory requirements relevant to their responsibilities.

2. Prioritizes quality by ensuring all work is performed accurately, completely, and within departmental timelines. Meets departmental standards for productivity and quality. May assist with quality control for testing as directed by technical staff, engage in basic troubleshooting, and communicate technical issues to technical personnel. Participates in identifying and documenting occurrences that deviate from established procedures. Adheres to established methods and practices, demonstrating basic problem-solving skills with quality control, testing, and computer-related issues while maintaining acceptable specimen rejection rates, if applicable.

3. Contributes to departmental financial responsibilities through the prudent use of supplies and materials and assists with inventory management. Engages in departmental initiatives aimed at cost reduction and service enhancement.

4. Performs various support duties as defined by the department, which may include phlebotomy and training. May assist in updating training documents and procedures.

5. Communicates courteously, professionally, effectively, and accurately with both internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrates basic computer inquiry and problem-solving skills, along with the use of communication equipment. Exhibits strong verbal and written communication abilities. Fosters positive communication that enhances teamwork. Attends and participates in staff meetings.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, with a minimum age of 18 if performing phlebotomy.
  • Progression through career ladder II-IV is contingent upon fulfilling career ladder requirements.
  • Position may necessitate DHS Fingerprinting Certification or the ability to obtain such certification.
  • Depending on department/location, candidates must possess a valid state driver's license in the state of employment and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
  • Phlebotomy/CLA certification as mandated by state regulations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Successful completion of a laboratory assistant training program.
  • Basic understanding of specimen requirements and handling protocols.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Additional relevant education and/or experience.
