We are seeking a dedicated individual for a part-time role in Fallon, NV, contributing to the mission of enhancing health outcomes.

POSITION OVERVIEW
This role supports technical laboratory personnel and may involve the collection, receipt, and processing of biological samples. Responsibilities include preparing specimens for analytical testing and performing waived or limited moderate complexity testing, contingent upon meeting CLIA minimum standards or obtaining approval from the CLIA Medical Director. This position operates under the guidance of departmental leadership and senior technical staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for processing and preparing patient samples, which includes: 1) specimen collection with a focus on correct patient and specimen identification and integrity 2) general laboratory specimen processing 3) referral laboratory processing. May conduct waived and moderate complexity testing under direct supervision while adhering to performance standards. Demonstrates proficiency in the computer systems utilized within the department. Tracks and resolves issues with missing specimens while managing pending lists. Conducts maintenance on laboratory equipment as directed and ensures compliance with accrediting and regulatory standards.

2. Emphasizes quality by ensuring all tasks are performed accurately, completely, and within established timeframes. Meets departmental standards for productivity and quality. May assist with quality control for testing as directed by technical staff, engage in basic troubleshooting, and communicate technical issues effectively. Actively participates in identifying and documenting deviations from established procedures. Follows defined methods and practices, demonstrating problem-solving skills related to quality control, testing, and computer-related issues while maintaining acceptable specimen rejection rates.

3. Engages in departmental financial stewardship through responsible use of supplies and materials, assisting with inventory management, and participating in initiatives aimed at cost reduction and service improvement.

4. Undertakes miscellaneous support tasks as assigned by the department, which may include phlebotomy and training responsibilities. May assist in updating training materials and procedural documentation.

5. Communicates professionally and effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrates basic computer inquiry and problem-solving skills, as well as proficiency in communication tools. Exhibits strong verbal and written communication abilities. Fosters positive interactions that enhance teamwork and actively participates in staff meetings.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, with a minimum age of 18 for phlebotomy tasks.
  • Progression through career ladder II-IV is contingent upon meeting career ladder criteria.
  • Position may necessitate DHS Fingerprinting Certification or the ability to obtain such certification.
  • Depending on department/location, candidates must possess a valid state driver's license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
  • Phlebotomy/CLA certification as mandated by state regulations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Successful completion of a laboratory assistant training program.
  • Fundamental understanding of specimen requirements and handling procedures.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Additional relevant education and/or experience.
