We are seeking a dedicated individual for a part-time role in the healthcare sector in Fallon, NV.

POSITION OVERVIEW
This role involves supporting technical laboratory personnel and may include responsibilities such as the collection, receipt, and processing of biological samples within the department, as well as preparing specimens for analytical evaluation. The position may also involve conducting waived and/or limited moderate complexity testing, contingent upon meeting CLIA minimum standards or receiving approval from the CLIA Medical Director. Reporting to departmental leadership, this position takes guidance from senior technical staff.

All tasks are to be performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and applicable professional guidelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. May assist in processing and preparing patient samples, which includes: 1) specimen collection, ensuring accurate patient and specimen identification and maintaining specimen integrity 2) general laboratory specimen processing and 3) referral laboratory processing. Under direct supervision, may conduct waived and moderate complexity testing while adhering to performance standards and knowledge requirements for the approved testing. Demonstrates proficiency in the computer systems utilized in the department. Responsible for tracking and locating missing specimens and monitoring pending lists. Conducts maintenance on laboratory equipment as directed. Ensures compliance with accrediting agency and regulatory standards relevant to their responsibilities.

2. Prioritizes quality by ensuring that all tasks are performed accurately, completely, and within departmental timeframes. Meets departmental productivity and quality standards. May conduct quality control for testing as directed by technical staff, troubleshoot basic issues, and communicate technical concerns to technical personnel. Engages in identifying and documenting occurrences that deviate from established procedures. Adheres to defined methods and practices, demonstrating basic problem-solving skills related to quality control, testing, and computer issues, while maintaining acceptable specimen rejection rates, if applicable.

3. Contributes to departmental financial management through the judicious use of supplies and materials and assists with inventory oversight. Engages in departmental initiatives aimed at cost reduction and service enhancement.

4. Performs various support tasks as assigned by the department, which may include phlebotomy and training responsibilities. May assist in updating training documents and procedures.

5. Communicates professionally, courteously, and effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrates basic computer inquiry and problem-solving skills, as well as proficiency in communication equipment. Exhibits strong verbal and written communication abilities. Fosters positive communication that enhances teamwork. Attends and participates in staff meetings.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; must be at least 18 years old if performing phlebotomy.
  • Progression through career ladder II-IV is contingent upon fulfilling career ladder criteria.
  • Position may necessitate DHS Fingerprinting Certification or the ability to obtain such certification.
  • Depending on department/location, candidates must possess a valid state driver's license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
  • Phlebotomy/CLA certification as mandated by state regulations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Successful completion of a laboratory assistant training program.
  • Basic understanding of specimen requirements and handling procedures.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Additional relevant education and/or experience.
