Responsibilities Overview

The Principal IT Infrastructure Administrator plays a pivotal role within the Application Services Division, overseeing the management of the organization's Software Portfolio. This includes performing essential tasks to maintain existing applications and software systems, as well as deploying new applications and software solutions, particularly focusing on the Aveva PI System (previously known as OSISoft).

This position demands a blend of technical expertise and project management capabilities to effectively implement, support, and enhance the software infrastructure. Decisions are made in alignment with established policies, operational strategies, and business objectives, with guidance from IT Management and the IT Advisory Committee.

The Principal IT Infrastructure Administrator is primarily responsible for supporting NYPA's Asset Health Monitoring Application suite, which encompasses tools such as Aveva PI, GE Smart Signal, GP Strategies Eta Pro, and GE Asset Performance Monitoring.

To ensure the smooth operation of existing applications, this role involves managing the resolution of production issues, complying with IT change management protocols, and confirming the proper functionality of applications post-modification. Additional responsibilities include installing upgrades and patches, and when necessary, analyzing, designing, coding, and implementing enhancements to improve functionality or adapt to evolving business processes. When applications or their underlying software infrastructure reach the end of their lifecycle, the Principal IT Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for identifying and implementing suitable replacement solutions to meet organizational goals.

As technology and the utility sector evolve, so too must the solutions implemented to fulfill NYPA's business requirements. The significance of this role lies in its ability to enhance operational efficiency, facilitate improvements in business processes, and provide valuable insights for informed management decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and engage in all technological aspects of application development and support, including reporting, interfaces, database design, patching, upgrades, and enhancements.
  • Contribute to the overall architecture of existing enterprise application systems and the implementation of new applications, ERP solutions, and platform APIs.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, business analysts, and QA analysts to design, develop, and test applications.
  • Assist in the creation of information systems blueprints, design patterns, and templates for optimal software development, ensuring high levels of software reuse and the transition towards service-oriented architecture (SOA).
  • Support cloud-based resources, including IaaS and PaaS solutions.
  • Develop and assess plans and criteria for various projects and activities, evaluating the feasibility and soundness of proposed proof of concepts or solutions.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other team leads, business leadership, and management to ensure proper integration of processes and modules across the organization.
  • Develop and maintain technology roadmaps and assist in the formulation of product roadmaps.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge in application architecture, design, development, and support, particularly in large-scale enterprise system implementations.
  • Ability to design complex software systems that are scalable, maintainable, and extensible.
  • Proficiency in software engineering.
  • Experience in leading the implementation and support of real-time systems and enterprise applications.
  • Capability to lead medium to large teams effectively.
  • Adept at identifying and resolving complex issues within the software development lifecycle and influencing others towards solutions.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity policies and familiarity with both public and private cloud environments.
  • Experience in project management, resource estimation, and schedule management.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

Occasional overnight travel to various locations may be required.

The final salary offered will be based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
