Educational Support Specialist

Compensation: $45,984 annually (11-month role with July off)
This position is a full-time, exempt role designed to assist educators and supervisors at both elementary and secondary levels. The primary focus is on the creation, coordination, and execution of Individual Educational Plans (IEP) for students, along with collaboration with various stakeholders involved in the educational process. Regular interaction with local educational programs is essential to schedule IEP meetings, aid in IEP development, and implement positive behavior support strategies to enhance educational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain ongoing communication with each school district regarding Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) students.
- Clearly present the array of service options available to local education agencies (LEAs).
- Analyze reports from Deafness specialists and their implications for educational programming.
- Deliver in-service, pre-service, and professional development training.
- Engage in IEP teams and serve as the primary contact for all aspects of IEP execution.
- Provide technical support to LEAs for the planning, implementation, and assessment of programs serving DHH children.
- Recommend suitable instructional strategies and methodologies for DHH students.
- Assist in the formulation of state plans, special education regulations, and other relevant data concerning student education.
- Compile written reports detailing services provided.
- Stay informed about advancements in the field.
- Participate as a member of the intake team evaluating prospective students.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Comprehensive understanding of principles and practices in the education of DHH students.
- In-depth knowledge of effective teaching strategies for DHH children and awareness of services from state and local agencies.
- Ability to foster effective working relationships with local school officials, educational department staff, and families.
- Skill in establishing rapport with Deaf children from birth to age 21.
- Familiarity with general special education administration.
- Knowledge of state and federal programs, laws, and regulations related to special education and DHH.
- Ability to cultivate positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Advanced competency in American Sign Language.
- Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in Education of the Deaf or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated experience with IEPs in general or special education environments.
- Eligibility for certification in one or more special education teaching areas.
