Position: Automation Service Specialist (Focused on PLC Programming)

Location: Remote (preferably situated in the Midwest; ideally within proximity to a major airport). Occasional travel to the German headquarters is required.

With over two decades of expertise, they provide a wide array of services, from initial setup to ongoing production support, maintenance, and repair. Known for their robust, fully automated systems, the company addresses the North American market's needs, specializing in automation solutions for intralogistics and automated systems. The US branch, established recently, is dedicated to serving the North American sector with a strong focus on the semiconductor and solar technology fields.

Position Summary:

The Automation Service Specialist will take charge of machine setup, programming, electrical tasks, and delivering outstanding customer service. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in PLC programming, along with a solid foundation in mechanical and electrical work. Furthermore, candidates should have a comprehensive understanding of automation systems, including commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization. New hires will participate in an extensive training program as part of their onboarding process. This role demands a high level of independence, as the specialist will frequently operate remotely and autonomously at client locations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee machinery installation and commissioning at client sites, ensuring compliance with established standards.
  • Perform PLC programming tasks, addressing troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Enhance machine performance through sensor adjustments and system improvements.
  • Quickly resolve technical challenges to minimize downtime and uphold operational efficiency.
  • Build strong client relationships by delivering exceptional service and support throughout project lifecycles.
  • Drive system enhancements by implementing software updates and hardware modifications.
  • Provide thorough training to clients on machine operation and maintenance protocols.
  • Maintain precise documentation of all activities and stay informed on industry trends and best practices.
  • Be present on-site during critical project phases to assist with installation, configuration, and initial operation, providing practical, on-the-job training and demonstrations to ensure clients' teams can effectively operate and maintain the systems.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Expertise in PLC programming, including systems such as Allen Bradley Logix and Guard Logix, encompassing structured text and ladder programming.
  • Understanding of automation systems, including principles of system automation, machinery commissioning, troubleshooting technical issues, optimizing machine performance, and developing and implementing changes to enhance system functionality.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc robots is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Valid driver's license.
