Patient Access Coordinator

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Specialist to join our team at Children's Hospital & Medical Center. As a Patient Access Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring that patients and families have an exceptional first experience with our hospital.
Key Responsibilities:- Obtain complete and accurate patient, demographic, and insurance information to enhance the revenue cycle and prevent denials of reduction in benefits.
- Assemble forms and patient packets as necessary.
- Convert pre-registration to visit when a patient/family arrives in a timely manner and assemble patient charts when required.
- Verify all demographic information is complete and accurate in Epic registration system and communicate such information to all parties involved.
- Obtain complete and accurate data at the bedside for patients when appropriate, thus supporting the medical needs of the patient.
- Obtain authorization for medical treatment/testing or admission from parents or legal guardian.
- Communicate NeHii disclosure and document in Registration system(s).
- Prompt the collection of co-payment, deductible, co-insurance, or deposit of self-pay balances at the time of registration if not previously collected.
- Identify, collect, and accept copayments and payments on account at the time of registration.
- Post payment to account at the time of collection according to system protocol.
- Review all sources for balance due within Epic upon patient arrival and make an attempt to collect.
- Assure completion of Self-Pay Form for all true self-pay accounts and forward to Patient Advocates.
- Obtain ABN form when applicable.
- Complete daily deposit and manage cash drawer to ensure balancing and posting needs are met according to department policies.
- Develop a working knowledge of insurance companies and their requirements.
- Verify Medicaid eligibility through NMES line or N-Focus/web eligibility.
- Utilize Passport electronic eligibility on all applicable payors for eligibility and to determine out-of-pocket patient responsibilities.
- Utilize available websites for non-Passport eligibility inquiries.
- Enter patient transfers, discharges, expirations, and physician notification changes into EPIC.
- Answer and direct multi-line phone within 2-3 rings.
- Complete Add/Change physician form when physician not in EPIC, route completed form to Medical Staff Office, and follow through with updating patient registration once physician has been added to EPIC.
- Coordinate Outpatient Ambulatory Ancillary services and identify specific registration protocol based upon patient clinic type.
- Complete opening and closing department routines, including separating and sorting reports generated by computer and fax, filing or delivering reports to the appropriate person, and giving shift change report.
- Receive and transport specimens collected outside of the facility.
- Coordinate with CyraCom or in-house interpreter to facilitate registration of limited English proficiency customers.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Minimum one year customer service experience required.
- One year experience working in a healthcare or insurance setting preferred.
- Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred.
This position requires coverage 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Must be able to work during assigned shift(s) (day, evening, night, weekend, and/or holidays). All staff may be asked to take on call for the areas of Access that are open 24/7.
