Position Overview:

The Rehabilitation Specialist is responsible for aiding the recovery of patients experiencing physical, cognitive, or sensorimotor challenges by designing and executing medically prescribed rehabilitation strategies. Treatment protocols are tailored to align with each patient's physical and cognitive capabilities, aiming to enhance or restore optimal functional independence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct patient evaluations, analyze test outcomes, and formulate and execute care strategies to support patient rehabilitation.
  • Assess patients' functional abilities in Activities of Daily Living, providing guidance and training for adaptive tools and/or modifications as necessary.
  • Utilize and maintain various therapeutic equipment, including but not limited to: electrical stimulation devices, ultrasound machines, paraffin baths, hot/cold packs, splinting materials, UBE, and adaptive devices.
  • Deliver instruction on postural control, body mechanics, ergonomics, therapeutic exercises, and home exercise regimens.
  • Collaborate with physicians regarding treatment plans and patient progress.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including evaluations, daily progress notes, insurance forms, discharge summaries, and billing records.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Graduate from an American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) accredited School of Occupational Therapy with a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral Degree.
  • Preferred Experience: At least one (1) year of experience as a Rehabilitation Specialist, including work with diverse populations in inpatient, CCU, outpatient, hand therapy, and/or pediatric services. Proficiency in computer use and strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Licensure: A valid Alaskan Occupational Therapy License is required at the time of appointment and for ongoing employment.
Additional Information:
  • In lieu of fringe benefits, casual employees receive a $2 per hour casual differential in addition to their hourly base pay. Casual employees will not be scheduled for full-time hours for more than four (4) consecutive months or exceed 780 hours annually. To maintain status and employment, casual employees must work at least one (1) shift within a 90-day period.
Internal Hires: Pay rates will be determined based on applicable personnel rules or union contract terms.
