Job Summary

Job Overview:

As a Water Safety Specialist at Indian River State College, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of swimmers at our facilities. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide water safety protection for swimmers, including monitoring the swimming environment and enforcing safety guidelines.
  • Interact with users of the facility in a professional manner, addressing any concerns or issues that may arise.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including performing water rescues and providing first aid as needed.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment, adhering to all relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure seamless operations and effective communication.

Requirements:

  • Possess a valid certification in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.
  • Have knowledge of approved water rescue methods and first aid techniques.
  • Be skilled in swimming and water rescue, as well as basic computer applications used on the job.
  • Ability to learn and enforce facility rules and regulations.
  • Ability to maintain the safety of patrons and recognize and prevent dangerous situations from arising.

Physical Demands:

This position requires medium work, involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. During an emergency, this position may be required to retrieve a swimmer weighing more than 100 pounds in the water and then lift or drag that swimmer to safety.

Compensation: Pay range starts at: $12.00/hour
