Job Title: Commissioning Specialist I

Merrick & Company is seeking a highly skilled Commissioning Specialist I to join our growing Commissioning team. As a Commissioning Specialist I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful commissioning of various facilities and systems, including laboratories, nuclear spaces, hospitals, and clean rooms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and perform detailed field commissioning services, assessments, and studies for various facilities and systems.
  • Generate commissioning plans, write commissioning specifications, develop commissioning installation checklists and functional test procedures, and verify and validate commissioned systems controls and equipment.
  • Document the commissioning process, develop final commissioning reports, and develop systems manuals.
  • Frequent travel to project/client locations is required, with possible international travel.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a 2-year Technical Associates Degree from an accredited institution with practical commissioning, controls, or testing experience.
  • Optional experience that will also be considered:
    • Experience with HVAC controls systems and protocols (e.g. JCI, Siemens, ALC, BACnet, Modbus, etc)
    • Experience with construction administration
    • LEED/Green Globes/Guiding Principles Compliance
  • Ability to travel to project/client locations located in the US and internationally.
  • The client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.

  • Be a Self-starter and independently motivated individual. Must be able to work as a member of a close team and be able to work independently as necessary.
  • Have good organizational and planning skills with the ability to direct a team through the execution of the commissioning process.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience coordinating with owners and contractors, as well as the ability to lead project meetings are necessary skills.
  • Have the ability to generate accurate, detailed reports.
  • Have the ability to read and understand building drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Have knowledge of controls systems and control sequences.
  • Be proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point). Familiarity with AutoCad and/or Revit will be considered an asset.
  • Possess, or be able to obtain, a US security clearance.
  • Achieve commissioning certification under ASHRAE, ACG and/or BCA within the first three years of engagement.

Physical Requirements:
  • Physically mobile in and around construction sites and facilities
  • Able to climb ladders
  • Mobile crawling in and around mechanical space with piping and ductwork
  • Ability to carry test instruments and equipment
  • Lift 50 pounds
  • The job requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • The job requires the ability to perform work in a laboratory environment.
