Scientific Research Specialist

The Scientific Research Specialist will undertake autonomous scientific inquiry projects from conception to dissemination. This role involves preparing and composing various documentation of research findings into articles, proposals, funding applications, and presentations. The Specialist will mentor undergraduate students and research assistants. Additionally, this position will oversee laboratory protocols and coordinate project initiatives in partnership with other experts.

Position Overview

The Specialist is responsible for the design, execution, and conclusion of laboratory research initiatives. A comprehensive understanding of all methodologies employed by the lab is essential, along with the ability to stay informed about technical advancements and incorporate new methods as necessary. The individual will be expected to create data visualizations for presentations and publications, as well as draft manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals and assist in the preparation of grant proposals. Regular literature reviews and maintenance of the laboratory reference database will also be required. This role necessitates the supervision and training of technicians and undergraduate students in the laboratory, along with effective communication with collaborators.

Key Responsibilities

The Scientific Research Specialist will also be tasked with:

  • Placing and processing orders while ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Creating, maintaining, and updating regulatory protocols.
  • Monitoring and maintaining equipment, including during emergency situations outside of regular hours.
  • Training personnel on the use and upkeep of shared core equipment.

This position demands expertise in molecular biology techniques (such as generating new plasmids, cell lines, sh/siRNA, and CRISPR Cas9 technologies), cell culture (maintenance and engineering), RT-qPCR, Western Blotting, in situ proximity ligation, plate reader assays, resonant scanning confocal microscopy, live imaging microscopy, and ultra-speed centrifugation.

Physical Requirements

The role is primarily sedentary but requires mobility within a university environment.
