**Position Overview:**
As part of our esteemed engineering Research & Development team, you will engage in pioneering studies on carbon materials aimed at enhancing energy storage solutions, such as lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries. You will have the opportunity to work closely with NETL's carbon materials manufacturing team to devise novel synthesis techniques and technologies.

**Key Responsibilities:**
  • Conduct hands-on laboratory experiments to synthesize various carbon materials, including graphite, graphene, and activated carbons.
  • Utilize advanced characterization techniques to analyze the structural, optical, and electronic properties of carbon and composite materials.
  • Fabricate and evaluate electrochemical cells with innovative carbon materials, assessing their performance and properties.
  • Investigate the electrochemical characteristics of new electrode materials for batteries and supercapacitors using various analytical methods.
  • Participate in team meetings, contribute to progress reports, and prepare scientific manuscripts for publication in reputable journals.

**Qualifications Required:**
  • Ph.D. in a relevant field (Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline).
  • Proven expertise in the synthesis and functionalization of carbon materials, demonstrated through a strong publication record.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrochemistry techniques and experience in developing and characterizing electrode materials.
  • Familiarity with characterization methods such as electron microscopy, XPS, Raman, FTIR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and XRD.
  • Demonstrated ability to publish impactful research and collaborate effectively within a team environment.

**Preferred Qualifications:**
  • Experience or knowledge in graphite synthesis and characterization for battery applications.
