Position Overview

Hennepin Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our esteemed Neurosurgery team. This role involves the comprehensive medical and surgical oversight of complex neurosurgery patients in both hospital and outpatient environments. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will collaborate with surgical staff and resident physicians while also exercising independent judgment in patient care across a wide range of neurosurgical conditions, including trauma cases.

Work Schedule

This position operates Monday through Friday, encompassing 80 hours per pay period, which includes overnight coverage for additional compensation. Currently, there are no requirements for operating room time or weekend coverage, although this may be subject to change in the future.

Compensation Structure

The following table outlines the current salary rates based on years of licensure as an APP:

  • 0-2 Years: $134,000
  • 3-5 Years: $137,000
  • 6-9 Years: $144,000
  • 10-14 Years: $147,000
  • 15+ Years: $151,465.60

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough and ongoing physical evaluations of neurosurgery patients.
  • Collaborate with the Neurosurgery Team to manage medically and surgically complex cases.
  • Order and interpret necessary laboratory tests, imaging studies, and other diagnostics, ensuring timely patient scheduling for special tests.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding medical and neurosurgical conditions and care plans.
  • Coordinate with clinic staff to ensure proper follow-up appointments and necessary tests for discharged patients.
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to the education and development of residents, nurses, and fellow APPs.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives in the care of neurosurgery patients.
  • Engage in departmental research activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner or in Physician Assistant studies from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure in Minnesota as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (or eligibility).
  • Nurse Practitioner candidates must possess the ability to treat both adult and pediatric populations.
  • Certification in the relevant area of specialization from an authorized certifying body.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Experience in Neurosurgery (APP, RN, or other relevant roles).
