Position Overview

Hennepin Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Neurosurgery team. This role focuses on the medical and surgical management of complex neurosurgery patients, primarily in an outpatient setting, while also providing some inpatient support as needed.

Work Schedule

This position operates Monday through Friday, totaling 40 hours per week during daytime hours. There is no requirement for operating room duties, and the role involves limited procedures. Additionally, there is no on-call, evening, or weekend coverage expected.

Compensation Structure

The salary is determined based on years of licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider:

  • 0-2 Years: $134,000
  • 2-5 Years: $137,000
  • 5-10 Years: $144,000
  • 10-15 Years: $147,000
  • 15+ Years: $151,465.60

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough physical assessments of neurosurgery patients.
  • Collaborate with the Neurosurgery Team to manage medically and surgically complex cases.
  • Provide outpatient care in conjunction with inpatient APPs, residents, and staff for seamless patient care.
  • Order and interpret necessary laboratory and radiological tests, ensuring timely scheduling for patients.
  • Educate patients and their families about their medical conditions and treatment plans.
  • Coordinate with clinic staff to ensure proper scheduling of referrals.
  • Facilitate follow-up care for discharged patients with appropriate providers.
  • Contribute to the education and development of residents, nurses, and clinic staff.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives for neurosurgery patient care.
  • Engage in departmental research activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner or in Physician Assistant studies from an accredited institution.
  • Current Minnesota licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant.
  • Certification in the relevant area of specialization.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Prior experience in neurosurgery (as an APP, RN, or in another capacity).
