Position Overview
Hennepin Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Neurosurgery team. This role involves the medical and surgical oversight of complex neurosurgery patients, primarily in an outpatient setting, with some responsibilities for inpatient coverage.
Work Schedule
This position operates Monday through Friday, totaling 40 hours per week during daytime hours. There is no requirement for operating room duties, on-call responsibilities, or weekend shifts.
Compensation Structure
The salary is determined by years of licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider:
- 0-2 Years: $134,000
- 2-5 Years: $137,000
- 5-10 Years: $144,000
- 10-15 Years: $147,000
- 15+ Years: $151,465.60
Key Responsibilities
- Perform thorough physical assessments of patients undergoing neurosurgery.
- Collaborate with the Neurosurgery Team to manage medically and surgically complex cases.
- Deliver outpatient care in partnership with inpatient APPs, residents, and staff to ensure comprehensive patient management.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests and manage patient scheduling for necessary evaluations.
- Educate patients and their families regarding their medical conditions and treatment plans.
- Coordinate with clinic staff to facilitate patient referrals and ensure appropriate follow-up.
- Engage with inpatient teams to ensure continuity of care for discharged patients.
- Contribute to the education and development of residents, nurses, and medical assistants.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives in the care of neurosurgery patients.
- Participate in departmental research activities.
Qualifications
- Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner or in Physician Assistant studies from an accredited institution.
- Current Minnesota licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant.
- Certification in a relevant specialty area.
- BLS and ACLS certifications are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- Prior experience in neurosurgery, whether as an APP, RN, or in another capacity.
