We are seeking a Retail Sales Associate, Full-Time who is eager to explore their potential, develop professionally, and enjoy the benefits of being part of the SMART FOODSERVICE family.

Key Responsibilities

The SMART FOODSERVICE Retail Sales Associate plays a crucial role in fostering an environment of exceptional customer service, supporting the SMART FOODSERVICE mission: Quality Food, Made Accessible. Our team is expected to embody and promote the SMART FOODSERVICE Cultural Values: Deliver Excellence, Minimize Waste, Collaborate for Success, Communicate Openly, and Recognize Your Value. As an integral member of our team, you will undertake various roles, including Cashier, Stock Clerk, and Customer Service, and must be dedicated to service excellence, demonstrating this commitment in all job functions. Throughout your shift, you may be assigned to different departments based on customer and business needs. Under the guidance of store management, you may work in any or all of the following areas: the front end of the store, selling products, and assisting customers during the checkout process.

  • Engaging with customers on the sales floor in our Meat/Frozen, Produce/Dairy, and Dry Goods/Culinary Equipment & Supply departments.
  • Restocking merchandise and ensuring proper product rotation across all departments.
  • Assisting during special store events, such as Vendor Expos, sales floor reorganizations, and inventory counts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Front End:

  • Guarantee that every customer enjoys an outstanding SMART FOODSERVICE experience by building and nurturing relationships with our clientele.
  • Utilize all skills and knowledge acquired through SMART FOODSERVICE training and exemplify this behavior in the store.
  • Conduct sales and cash handling tasks at the POS with efficiency and accuracy, including scanning items, weighing products, and resolving scanning issues.
  • Ensure that each item's barcode is correctly represented in the system and report any discrepancies to the Front End Supervisor or Manager on Duty.
  • Perform cart-to-cart transfers of all products at checkout, including visual inspections for product integrity.
  • Carry out store opening and/or closing duties at the front end as per assigned shifts.

Sales Floor and Stocking:

  • Maintain a strong focus on boosting sales and managing inventory loss. Assist customers in locating products and informing them of available services.
  • Support the receipt of inventory shipments and ensure shelves are stocked neatly while conducting product quality checks. Report low stock levels to management.
  • Ensure all merchandise is properly labeled, including tagging unscannable items and applying weight labels as necessary.
  • Replenish the sales floor daily by organizing freight from top stock, adhering to FIFO practices.
  • Utilize equipment such as reach trucks and pallet jacks for product movement and stocking.
  • Employ computer applications like Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as proprietary software as required.
  • Ensure all products are accessible, visually appealing, and consistently available.
  • Assist with pricing updates as directed by the Pricing Supervisor and Store Management. Participate in store opening and closing duties and inventory processes as needed.

Customer Service:

  • Ensure the store environment is well-maintained and safe for both staff and customers by adhering to safety protocols.
  • Alert management to any safety concerns within the store and address them as appropriate.
  • Maintain cleanliness across the sales floor, front end, and restrooms, utilizing cleaning equipment as necessary.
  • Ensure the parking lot and store entrance areas are tidy and organized.
  • Collect shopping carts from the parking lot and return them to designated areas, ensuring they are clean and functional.
  • In addition to the above duties, you may be assigned other responsibilities as required by Store Management.

  • Internal: Interaction with employees at all levels within the organization. External: Engagement with customers and other service/product providers.

Work Environment

  • Work is conducted in a retail store setting, open to the public, with exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
  • Work is generally performed on level surfaces, although the use of ladders or elevated surfaces may be necessary.
  • Temperature can fluctuate throughout the store, ranging from -10 to 85 degrees. Physical interaction with customers is required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 6-12 months of experience in retail cashiering and/or stocking is required.
  • At least one year of experience in retail sales and/or customer service is preferred.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience is required.

Physical Qualifications

  • Ability to perform required physical activities for the specified duration.
