Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled expert in programming models and runtime systems to join our research and development team at Los Alamos National Laboratory. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and delivering novel approaches to programming, enhancing toolchains, and improving overall developer productivity and performance of computational science, data science, and machine learning workloads.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the development of new and existing capabilities in programming models and runtime systems, including the LLVM compiler infrastructure, the Legion programming system, and supporting runtime systems.
  • Conduct research to build new capabilities aligned with our overall mission and research directions in support of computational science, data-centric, and machine learning applications.
  • Develop and optimize code for large-scale systems and heterogeneous architectures, including locality, scheduling, and performance portability.
  • Collaborate with a technically diverse team to achieve project goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • Established expertise in a subset of fundamental Computer Science topics, including design and/or implementation of parallel algorithms, parallel programming systems, programming languages, compilers, and parallel runtime systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in strong programming skills in C/C++ and some experience with other languages such as Rust, Python, Julia, etc.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, as evidenced by publications and a cover letter.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced experience with the LLVM compiler infrastructure, the Legion programming system, or in advanced compiler or parallel runtime system research and development.
  • Experience working directly with data-centric, machine learning, or high-performance scientific applications.
  • Knowledge of system/hardware architecture, design and implementation of high-performance data movement libraries, data storage systems, accelerator architectures, and the corresponding system-level and programming toolchain software components.
