Position Overview:

The State of Washington is seeking a dedicated Financial Recovery Enforcement Specialist 2 to become a vital member of our Behavioral Health Administration team within the Patient Financial Services Office.

Role Responsibilities:

In this role, you will collaborate with a team of Financial Recovery Enforcement Specialists tasked with assessing and confirming the financial eligibility of patients admitted to our facilities. Your efforts will be instrumental in securing essential benefits for patients transitioning to community programs. Furthermore, you will provide guidance and support to patients, Regional Support Network Liaisons, Social Workers, and families navigating financial assistance options for patients preparing for discharge.

Key Duties Include:

  • Coordinating the central point of contact for financial benefits discharge functions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in collaboration with hospital personnel, various DSHS divisions, Social Security Administration, Regional Support Networks, and community service providers.
  • Researching, interpreting, and articulating relevant state and federal program rules, regulations, and statutes.
  • Applying eligibility criteria from state and federal benefits programs to individual patient discharge situations.
  • Effectively communicating information to patients, families, staff, and community professionals.
  • Advocating for patients to secure entitlements such as Medicaid and Medicare benefits.
  • Conducting audits of patient files to identify deficiencies and gather necessary documentation for financial approval.
  • Interviewing patients to collect pertinent information for financial and medical benefits applications prior to discharge, with follow-up as necessary to ensure timely submission of accurate applications.

Who Should Consider Applying:

Applicants should have:

  • One year of experience as a Financial Recovery Enforcement Officer 1, or
  • A Bachelor’s degree combined with one year of experience in civil debt collection, claims adjustment, financial responsibility determination, or financial background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong multitasking abilities and effective prioritization skills.
  • Proficient interviewing and communication skills, particularly with mental health patients.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security eligibility requirements.
  • In-depth understanding of federal and state programs, including applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and directives.
  • Ability to comprehend and convey complex laws and regulations to diverse audiences.
