Job Overview

The Sommelier plays a pivotal role in enhancing the dining experience by expertly managing and curating the wine selection. This position requires a profound understanding of wine and sake, allowing for tailored recommendations that elevate guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Guest Engagement: Provide personalized wine and sake suggestions based on individual preferences, budget, and menu choices, while sharing insights on grape varieties, regions, and tasting notes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the culinary team to create harmonious wine pairings that complement the menu and drive beverage sales.
  • Service Standards: Ensure that wine service is executed flawlessly, maintaining high standards for storage, handling, and presentation, while training staff to uphold these practices.
  • Staff Education: Conduct training sessions to enhance the team's knowledge of wine and sake, covering aspects such as production methods and service etiquette.
  • Inventory Management: Perform regular inventory checks to maintain accurate stock levels and ensure availability of selected wines.
  • Operational Support: Assist with various restaurant operations, including serving and clearing tables, to ensure a seamless dining experience.
  • Industry Awareness: Stay updated on current trends and emerging wine regions to continuously refine the beverage program.
  • Adherence to Standards: Follow established service protocols and maintain professional grooming and uniform standards.
  • Continuous Learning: Participate in pre-shift meetings to stay informed about menu updates and promotions.
  • Ethical Conduct: Uphold the company’s reputation through ethical practices in all interactions.
Qualifications:
  • Preferred certification as a Sommelier or equivalent, with extensive knowledge of wine regions and service techniques.
  • Experience in a fine dining environment or upscale establishment is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to connect with guests in a professional manner.
  • Detail-oriented with the capacity to multitask in a dynamic setting while ensuring accuracy.
  • Team-oriented, contributing positively to the work environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform essential job functions in compliance with ADA and other regulations.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Capability to navigate through various work areas and perform physical tasks as needed.
