Mirus Bio is seeking a skilled Cost Accountant to join our finance team, reporting directly to the Director of Finance. The primary responsibility of this role will be to manage and oversee the cost accounting processes and reporting within our ERP system, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Cost Accountant will conduct in-depth analyses comparing estimated costs to actual costs and prepare various budget reports. This role will also involve collaboration with departments such as Product Development, Operations, and Quality.
The secondary responsibility will include providing support to the accounting team. Responsibilities may vary and will likely encompass assisting in the preparation of financial reports, month-end and quarter-end close processes, budgets, and forecasts, as well as offering support for critical accounting functions.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Cost Accounting
- Ensure robust cost accounting processes are understood and adhered to across relevant functions.
- Establish and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), routing, labor, and overhead rates.
- Determine fixed costs such as salaries, rent, and insurance.
- Forecast, plan, and document variable costs including raw material purchases, labor, and operational expenses, with a keen understanding of industry standards regarding Cost of Goods Sold (COGS).
- Analyze actual costs against estimated costs, identify discrepancies, and report on variances.
- Review and report actual profit margins at both product family and SKU levels.
- Prepare necessary departmental and company-wide budgeting reports.
- Enhance and implement financial controls to ensure accurate accounting of assets and accounts.
- Become proficient in the ERP system, addressing transactional issues as they arise and leading improvements and upgrades.
- Staff Accounting
- Provide support and backup for Accounts Payable (A/P), Accounts Receivable (A/R), and Payroll.
- Assist with month-end financial closing processes, including account reconciliation for accuracy, particularly inventory.
- Prepare financial reports and various accounting statements.
- File tax forms with federal, state, and local agencies.
- Assist with audits by gathering necessary account information and documentation.
- Take ownership of various projects as needed.
- Exhibit behavior consistent with the Mirus Bio Employee Handbook.
- Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is required.
- A minimum of three years of experience in cost accounting is required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Business Central.
- Comprehensive understanding of accounting procedures and GAAP.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage confidential information.
