Position Overview:

The Virtual Construction Modeler plays a crucial role in managing the Building Information Modeling (BIM) process from initiation to completion. This position is responsible for ensuring that all BIM deliverables align with the project timeline, budget, and scope. The role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, coordinating virtual models for construction, and supporting design, planning, and installation efforts in conjunction with field management. Accountability for these responsibilities is vital for the successful execution of our commercial construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establishing priorities and overseeing the quality assurance and quality control of 3D modeling and 2D drawing outputs in accordance with established standards.
  • Interpreting project schedules, budgets, and deliverable requirements to effectively plan staffing and communicate any changes or rework to the project team.
  • Collaborating closely with the prefabrication department to ensure seamless integration of processes.
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with Superintendents, Foremen, and Project Managers to clarify ownership, manage expectations, and adhere to project timelines.

Essential Tasks:

  • Reviewing initial documents and models provided by General Contractors and Design Teams.
  • Setting up BIM workflows and Revit projects at the project's outset.
  • Applying expertise across various BIM coordination workflows to enhance project outcomes.
  • Utilizing knowledge of electrical systems to support constructability and project efficiency.
  • Creating, detailing, and annotating designs within virtual environments.
  • Coordinating with General Contractors and Trade Partners to develop a cohesive model.
  • Working alongside field management to ensure effective design, planning, and installation processes.
  • Tracking and managing modeling requests based on the construction schedule.
  • Assigning tasks to production personnel for the creation of modeled content and shop drawings.
  • Producing detailed installation and prefabrication drawings for field use.
  • Generating point layout files to facilitate field services and construction layout.

Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical and telecom systems relevant to large-scale construction projects.
  • Proficient in software tools such as Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and BIM 360.
  • Ability to deliver BIM outputs, including 3D models and 2D drawings, in compliance with established standards.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining productive working relationships.

Work Environment:

  • This is a permanent, full-time position, with typical office hours from Monday to Friday.
  • Overtime may be necessary to meet project deadlines.
  • Weekend work is infrequent but may be required on occasion.
  • Some travel to active construction sites may be necessary.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this role include the ability to sit, climb, balance, and perform tasks such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching. The candidate must be capable of lifting and moving objects up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
