Position Overview:
The Virtual Construction Modeler plays a crucial role in managing the Building Information Modeling (BIM) process from initiation to completion. This position ensures that all BIM outputs align with project timelines, financial plans, and defined scopes. Responsibilities include liaising with field teams, coordinating models, and facilitating effective communication among all project stakeholders. Accountability for these functions is vital for the successful design, planning, and execution of our commercial construction initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establishing priorities and overseeing the quality assurance and quality control of 3D models and 2D drawings in accordance with company standards.
- Analyzing project schedules, budgets, and deliverable requirements to effectively plan staffing for virtual construction, while promptly reporting any changes or rework impacts to the project team.
- Collaborating closely with the prefabrication department to ensure seamless integration of workflows.
- Maintaining open lines of communication with Superintendents, Foremen, and Project Managers to clarify responsibilities, set expectations, and adhere to schedules.
Essential Tasks:
- Collecting and reviewing preliminary documents and models from General Contractors and Design Teams.
- Planning and establishing BIM workflows throughout the project lifecycle.
- Setting up Revit projects and workspaces efficiently.
- Applying expertise across various BIM coordination workflows.
- Utilizing knowledge of electrical systems to enhance constructability.
- Creating, detailing, and annotating designs within virtual environments.
- Coordinating with General Contractors and Trade Partners to develop a cohesive model.
- Working alongside field management on design, planning, and installation tasks.
- Tracking requests from field management to align modeling tasks with the construction schedule.
- Directing production personnel to generate modeled content and shop drawings.
- Producing detailed installation and prefabrication drawings for field use.
- Generating point layout files for construction services.
Qualifications:
- Comprehensive understanding of electrical and telecom systems for large-scale construction projects.
- Proficient in Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and BIM 360.
- Ability to deliver BIM outputs, including 3D models and 2D drawings, in compliance with company standards.
- Strong communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to maintain productive relationships while meeting tight deadlines.
Work Environment:
- This is a permanent, full-time position based in an office or job site, typically working Monday through Friday.
- Overtime may be necessary to meet project deadlines.
- Weekend work is infrequent but may be required on occasion.
- Travel to various construction sites may be necessary.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of this role include the ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
