Position Overview:

The Virtual Construction Modeler plays a pivotal role in managing the Building Information Modeling (BIM) process from initiation to completion. This position ensures that all BIM deliverables align with the project timeline, budget, and scope, facilitating effective communication and coordination among all project stakeholders. The role involves overseeing virtual models for construction, collaborating with various teams, and supporting design, planning, and installation efforts alongside field management. Accountability for these responsibilities is essential for the successful execution of our commercial construction initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establishing priorities and monitoring the quality assurance and quality control (QAQC) of 3D modeling and 2D drawing outputs in accordance with Virtual Construction Standards.
  • Interpreting project schedules, budgets, and deliverable requirements to effectively plan staffing for virtual construction, ensuring that any changes or rework are communicated to the project team.
  • Collaborating closely with the prefabrication department to streamline processes.
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with Superintendents, Foremen, and Project Managers to clarify ownership, set expectations, and adhere to project timelines.

Essential Tasks:

  • Reviewing front-end documents and models from General Contractors and Design Teams.
  • Planning and establishing BIM workflows throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Setting up Revit projects and workspaces for efficient modeling.
  • Applying expertise across various BIM coordination workflows.
  • Utilizing knowledge of electrical systems to enhance constructability.
  • Creating, detailing, annotating, and designing within virtual environments.
  • Coordinating with General Contractors and Trade Partners to develop a cohesive model.
  • Collaborating with field management on design, planning, and installation tasks.
  • Tracking requests from field management for modeling in accordance with the construction schedule.
  • Directing production personnel to generate modeled content and shop drawings.
  • Producing detailed installation and prefabrication drawings for field execution.
  • Generating point layout files for field services and construction layout.

Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical and telecom systems for large-scale construction projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and BIM 360.
  • Capability to deliver BIM outputs, including 3D models, 2D installation/prefabrication drawings, and point layout files, in accordance with Virtual Construction Standards.
  • Strong communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to thrive under tight deadlines while fostering positive working relationships.

Work Environment:

  • This is a permanent full-time position, either office-based or jobsite-based, with standard Monday to Friday hours.
  • Overtime may be necessary to meet project deadlines.
  • Weekend work is infrequent but may occasionally be required.
  • Travel to active construction sites may be necessary.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this role include the ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
