Position Summary:

The Virtual Construction Modeler plays a crucial role in managing the Building Information Modeling (BIM) process from initiation to completion. This position ensures that all BIM outputs align with project timelines, financial plans, and scope requirements. Responsibilities include collaborating with various stakeholders, overseeing model coordination, and facilitating effective communication throughout the project lifecycle. Accountability for these responsibilities is essential for the successful execution of our commercial construction initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establishing priorities and monitoring the quality assurance and quality control of 3D modeling and 2D drawing outputs according to BIM standards.
  • Interpreting project timelines, budgets, and deliverable requirements to effectively manage staffing for virtual construction, while reporting any changes or rework impacts to the project team.
  • Collaborating closely with the prefabrication team to ensure seamless integration of processes.
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with Superintendents, Foremen, and Project Managers to clarify ownership, align expectations, and adhere to schedules.

Core Tasks:

  • Reviewing initial project documents and models provided by General Contractors and Design Teams.
  • Setting up and managing BIM workflows throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Configuring Revit projects and workspaces for optimal performance.
  • Applying expertise across various BIM coordination workflows.
  • Utilizing knowledge of electrical systems to enhance constructability.
  • Creating, detailing, and annotating designs within virtual environments.
  • Coordinating with General Contractors and Trade Partners to ensure a cohesive model.
  • Working alongside field management on design, planning, and installation tasks.
  • Tracking requests from field management for modeling in accordance with the construction schedule.
  • Directing production personnel to develop modeled content and shop drawings.
  • Generating detailed installation and prefabrication drawings for field use.
  • Creating point layout files for construction and field services.

Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical and telecom systems for large-scale construction projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and BIM 360.
  • Capability to produce BIM deliverables, including 3D models and 2D drawings, in accordance with established standards.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt under pressure while maintaining professional relationships.

Work Environment:

  • This is a permanent, full-time position based in an office or job site, typically working Monday through Friday.
  • Overtime may be necessary to meet project deadlines.
  • Weekend work is infrequent but may be required on occasion.
  • Travel to active construction sites may be necessary.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this role include the ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The individual must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
