Position Overview

UNM Medical Group, Inc. is seeking a Licensed Pharmacy Technician to become a vital member of our Outpatient Pharmacy team. This role is a PRN position, requiring availability for day shifts.

Compensation Range: Minimum $36,067 - Midpoint $45,073*

*Salary is contingent upon the total years of relevant experience.

*Salary is calculated based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) of 40 hours per week. For those working less than 40 hours/week, the salary will be prorated accordingly.

UNM Truman Health Services Pharmacy is on the lookout for a dedicated, detail-oriented, and proactive Licensed Pharmacy Technician (full time) who is passionate about enhancing the health outcomes of individuals living with HIV.

The selected candidate will collaborate within a multidisciplinary framework to deliver high-quality pharmacy services efficiently and effectively.

Role Summary

Under general supervision and adhering to UNMMG and UNM Truman Health Services protocols, the Licensed Pharmacy Technician will provide both technical and administrative support in the daily operations of the pharmacy. Responsibilities include assisting in the dispensing of prescription medications, managing routine orders for over-the-counter products, and offering direct customer service to patients collecting or dropping off prescriptions. The technician will also handle billing, cash management, and inventory oversight to support pharmacy functions.

Essential Qualifications for a Licensed Pharmacy Technician:

High school diploma or GED. Current registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in the State of New Mexico. National ExCPT or PTCB certification is mandatory. Candidates with a completed degree from an accredited institution that exceeds the minimum educational requirement may substitute experience on a year-for-year basis. Verification of education and licensure will be required upon selection.

Key Responsibilities of a Licensed Pharmacy Technician:

  1. Assist pharmacists in the preparation, filling, and dispensing of prescriptions; accurately count, package, and label unit doses for review; manage routine orders for prepackaged over-the-counter medications and medical supplies.
  2. Support patients during the drop-off and pick-up of prescription orders; ensure patients receive the correct medications at the point of sale.
  3. Input patient prescription orders into a computerized system; maintain accurate patient health and insurance records in compliance with established protocols.
  4. Format and upload patient insurance information for billing purposes while monitoring reimbursement status.
  5. Communicate with prescribing healthcare providers as needed to secure refill authorizations; liaise with third-party payers to facilitate payment for prescription claims.
  6. Assist with inventory management, including ordering replacement medications, removing expired stock, verifying new orders, and returning unwanted items; conduct periodic inventory assessments.
  7. Receive and manage pharmaceutical deliveries from vendors, ensuring proper placement on shelves per established guidelines.
  8. Process vendor invoices; track the status of ongoing purchase orders and submit electronic requests for new orders or modifications as necessary.
  9. Reconcile and document all daily cash and non-cash transactions; manage and record all insurance payments.
  10. Create and maintain spreadsheets to aid in the financial oversight of pharmacy operations.
  11. Prepare and package medications, including blister/bubble packaging and mail orders.
  12. Assist in onboarding and training new staff on standard procedures.
  13. Adhere to all current policies and procedures of UNMMG, Pharmacy, and applicable State and Federal regulations.
  14. Maintain a clean and organized pharmacy environment.
  15. Ensure work areas and equipment are kept in a tidy and orderly condition.
  16. Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

• Experience providing social support services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS.


• Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community.


• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
