Position Summary
Under the supervision of registered nursing personnel, the Patient Care Technician provides essential support in delivering direct patient care. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, assisting with daily living activities, and performing specimen collection. This role is integral to the interdisciplinary healthcare team, ensuring effective communication regarding patient status and needs.

Key Responsibilities
The following duties outline the primary functions of this position:

  1. Conducts patient assessments and manages care based on clinical findings.
  2. Records and monitors patient activities of daily living (ADLs), including feeding, bathing, and mobility assistance.
  3. Documents vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, and pulse, along with any reported discomfort.
  4. Facilitates patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  5. Engages in strategies that promote cost-effective patient outcomes.
  6. Ensures patient safety, including fall prevention measures, while maintaining a secure clinical environment.
  7. Maintains cleanliness and organization of patient rooms and care areas, ensuring adequate supply levels.
  8. Provides post-mortem care as required.
  9. Collaborates with healthcare team members to implement care plans and report changes in patient conditions.
  10. Assists in managing patient comfort, particularly concerning pain levels.
  11. Records dietary intake and monitors urinary and stool output.
  12. Conducts weight measurements and blood glucose monitoring.
  13. Administers wound care to support healing and skin integrity.
  14. Assists with specimen collection for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper identification and documentation.
  15. Provides care for orthopedic and rehabilitation devices.
  16. Participates in patient rounding in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  17. Responds to patient-triggered alarms and alerts.
  18. Adheres to safety protocols and reports any safety risks or incidents.
  19. Maintains vigilance for assigned patients, including during safety companion duties.
  20. Implements safe lifting techniques and body mechanics in daily tasks.
  21. Contributes to improving patient flow and minimizing delays in care.
  22. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) in Maryland is mandatory.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is essential.
