About the Position

The Southeastern Museums Conference is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Director to lead our organization in achieving its mission to preserve and interpret the history and culture of Alachua County and its environs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the museum's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and goals.
  • Provide leadership and management for the museum's day-to-day operations, including financial management, marketing, and program development.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local museums, history, culture, and arts groups, and community organizations to foster partnerships and collaborations.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of exhibits, public and educational programs, and other activities that promote the museum's mission and goals.
  • Seek outside funding through grants and fundraising, and manage annual fund-raising events.
  • Supervise staff and volunteers to ensure effective operation of the museum, and coordinate staff development activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Requirements
  • Masters Degree or Higher in Museum Studies or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Museum Professional policies, issues, and strategies.
  • Leadership skills relevant to volunteer staff, museum staff, and a diverse public constituency.
  • Record of successful fundraising and grant writing.
  • Knowledge of the local area and community preferred.
  • Education or experience in nonprofit management a plus.
