Surgical Technologist II

The Surgical Technologist II is a highly skilled and experienced professional who plays a critical role in the Operating Room team. As a proficient Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Surgical Technologist (ST), you will work under the supervision of a registered nurse to deliver exceptional patient care throughout the perioperative experience.
Key Responsibilities- Act as an independent scrub assistant during all stages of the surgical procedure.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique during set-up, patient draping, and during surgical procedure.
- Follow Operating Room procedures for the proper decontamination of instrumentation, equipment, and room turnover.
- Assist with all procedure types within their surgical specialty area and demonstrate advanced knowledge and expert practice.
- Support multiple service lines and case types within the Operating Room.
- Perform the role of Preceptor for staff in training.
- Remain knowledgeable about equipment and ensure safe and efficient utilization across multiple surgical specialties.
- Appropriately select instruments, special supplies, and equipment to anticipate the need of the surgical team.
- Perform all counts with the circulating nurse according to Operating Room policy.
- Manage all intraoperative medications in accordance with Operating Room policy.
- Assist as needed in emergency situations.
- Manage surgical specimens according to Physician's orders and Hospital policy.
- Maintain a collaborative work relationship with peers and colleagues to create a positive work environment.
- Assist in the positioning, moving, and transporting of patients as needed.
- Report equipment and supply problems to the Charge Nurse, Service Lead, or Clinical Nursing Director as needed.
- Complete all required continuing education to maintain certification, if applicable.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or training through a branch of the United States Armed Forces.
- Must be certified within 1 year of completing the surgical technologist training program.
- Current BLS certification.
- A minimum of 2-3 years of prior experience as a Surgical Technologist is required.
The Surgical Technologist II will work within the semi-restricted and restricted environment of the Operating Room and other Perioperative support areas. This role requires frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals, blood, and bodily fluids, extreme noise levels, radiation, lasers, and drastic fluctuations in ambient temperature.
The ability to remain in a standing position for long periods of time and wear a protective lead apron for extended periods is also required. Frequent lifting and positioning of patients, materials, equipment, power tools, instruments, etc. are also necessary.
