Traffic Engineering Project Specialist

Position Overview:
JMT is in search of a Traffic Engineering Project Specialist to enhance our team.
The Project Specialist will take charge of leading and supporting transportation design and analysis initiatives. This role involves engineering design, traffic operations, and analysis, leveraging a solid understanding of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate tasks with minimal supervision.
The individual will serve as a technical mentor to junior engineers.Key Responsibilities:
1. Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work for significant projects or manage entire projects of moderate complexity.
2. Execute traffic engineering designs, including signage, pavement markings, signals, lighting, traffic maintenance, detours, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
4. Design projects in alignment with client specifications and guidelines, utilizing design software and drawing tools.
5. Conduct traffic safety and analysis studies in accordance with the Highway Capacity Manual and applicable software tools (Synchro, HCS, and/or VISSIM).
7. Coordinate with internal team members to ensure timely project completion and adherence to quality standards.
8. Draft technical reports as required.
9. Assist with fieldwork as necessary, including data collection and evaluation of traffic operations.
10. Support proposal preparation as needed.
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in PC Office Suite (Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Outlook).
- Familiarity with design and drafting procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and estimates.
- Strong analytical, writing, and public speaking capabilities.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related discipline from an ABET accredited program.
- 5-10 years of relevant experience.
- Valid motor vehicle driver's license.
- Experience with CADD software (Bentley preferred).
- Proficiency in traffic engineering modeling software (Synchro, HCS, Vissim, Visual, AGI32).
Preferred Experience:
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in New York State or the ability to obtain such registration within one year of employment.
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification.
- Experience collaborating with local clients at city, county, and state levels.
Working Conditions:
Work is primarily conducted in a general office environment, with 95% of time spent in a sedentary role. While the office conditions are generally comfortable, fieldwork may occasionally require outdoor activities in varying weather conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be necessary.
