Key Responsibilities

Your Role:

We are seeking an Experienced Roadway Engineer for our Midwest offices. This role focuses on the design and preparation of submissions related to highway and arterial roadway projects, complex intersection designs, local roadways, site planning, and drainage systems for various agencies. This position also offers opportunities for management and business development.

Primary Duties:
  • Lead the technical design initiatives for transportation facilities, including freeways, arterials, intersections, drainage, and site planning.
  • Ensure the precision of engineering designs and plans, maintaining quality presentation and thoroughness while adhering to budgets and schedules.
  • Conduct research on design alternatives and document findings for senior engineering staff.
  • Provide insights for Requests For Information (RFIs) and review construction phase shop drawings.
  • Engage in business development efforts.
  • Occasionally represent the firm in client meetings to address critical inquiries.
  • Keep the Project Manager informed about workload and any changes in project timelines or scopes.
  • Act as a lead designer and consultant in specialized technical areas.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to organize and deliver project plans as required.
  • Mentor junior engineers involved in related projects.
  • Enhance professional knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and participating in professional organizations.
Qualifications

What We Value:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in relevant states or the ability to obtain licensure within one year of employment.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant design experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard technical manuals and state DOT specifications.
  • Ability to demonstrate creativity and mature engineering judgment in solving complex engineering challenges.
  • Encouragement of diverse perspectives in problem-solving and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
  • Commitment to inclusivity in the workplace, valuing diversity and equity for all stakeholders.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with local state agencies and municipalities in the Midwest.
  • Positive demeanor and effective communication skills in team settings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MicroStation (Geopak, OpenRoads), and related technical software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
