Burns & McDonnell's Oil, Gas & Chemical division is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to be based in our Kansas City, MO headquarters. The Oil, Gas & Chemical division undertakes a wide range of projects within the oil, gas, and chemical sectors, including gas processing plants, midstream facilities, refining operations, chemical production facilities, and independent storage and logistics solutions. The Senior Project Engineer will oversee the comprehensive engineering design efforts for both Design-only and Design-Build/EPC projects. Design-only projects will focus on engineering design for traditional design-bid-build scenarios, while Design-Build/EPC projects will cover all aspects of design, procurement, and construction management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the overall engineering design efforts for Design-only and EPC projects.
  • Develop and manage final engineering man-hour budgets.
  • Implement the Quality Program for engineering designs.
  • Conduct independent quality and completeness reviews of engineering deliverables.
  • Direct and manage field engineering services.
  • Coordinate engineering design schedules, budgets, and progress measurement with project controls teams.
  • Manage, prepare, and submit client change orders.
  • Lead the engineering preparation of subcontract plans and bid packages for subcontractors.
  • Oversee turnover and start-up plans.
  • Expedite vendor and fabrication shop progress.
  • Prepare and/or manage monthly client status reports.
  • Facilitate meetings and review the status of projects.
  • Ensure adherence to company and site safety protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all company policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 7 years of direct project engineering experience managing design efforts for Design-only and EPC projects.
  • Expertise in a specific engineering discipline, with a foundational understanding of other engineering fields.
  • Strong skills in facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication abilities, with clear and concise writing and presentation skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to develop and manage work plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Leadership experience with diverse project teams is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred.
