Funeral Attendant Job Description

At Service Corporation International, we're dedicated to celebrating lives and supporting our associates. As a Funeral Attendant, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our services run smoothly and as planned.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare rooms for ceremonies, including setting up and cleaning chairs, tables, icons, guest books, flowers, keepsakes, caskets, and urns.
  • Greet visitors, provide programs, answer questions, and offer funeral services information.
  • Assist with the preparation of the deceased and casket, including dressing the casket, adjusting clothing and jewelry, and transporting the casket through hallways.
  • Drive family members to the cemetery site and assist with pallbearer duties.
  • Following services, remove, clean, and properly store company property, as well as package, load, or deliver family mementos, keepsakes, and flowers.
Office Assistance:
  • Courteously answer phones, screen callers, and take 'first call' information.
  • Notify staff members when appointments arrive and escort guests to the appropriate room.
  • Maintain the reception area and refreshments, including making coffee, disposing of trash, replenishing supplies, and straightening, cleaning, or vacuuming.
  • Review various documents for accuracy and enter data into proprietary systems.
  • Receive deliveries and perform other mailroom tasks, such as making copies, scanning, faxing, and folding/ preparing memorial materials.
Driver and Vehicle Maintenance:
  • Transport, pick up, and deliver documents, family mementos, flowers, and similar articles safely to their destination, which may include family residences, care centers, or funeral homes.
  • May transport the deceased to the funeral home.
  • Wash, vacuum, and clean vehicles to ensure they are presentable.
  • Fuel vehicles as necessary, following safety guidelines and expenditure processes.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • No prior work experience required, but funeral industry experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to follow instructions given over the phone or in person.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and type.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to work with kindness and compassion for the deceased and their families.
  • Ability to maintain composure in challenging situations.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with colleagues to accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 200 pounds.
