SUMMARY:

Support the Lead Technician in the daily functions of the clinic and the operations of the Polysomnographic technicians. Responsible for aiding the Lead Technician in overseeing support staff and managing the inventory of supplies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitates patient care activities in a surgical setting.
  • Transports patients along with necessary documentation to and from the operating room and recovery area.
  • Assists with the management of medical materials.
  • Conducts routine safety inspections and preventive maintenance on both stationary and portable medical equipment.
  • Engages in standard and specialized cleaning tasks.
  • Aids anesthesia staff with patient positioning and the administration of anesthesia.
  • Implements aseptic techniques, infection control measures, and adheres to medical ethics.
  • Participates in the terminal cleaning of the operating room and prepares for subsequent procedures.
  • Receives, decontaminates, and sanitizes used patient care items.
  • Assembles, wraps, and sterilizes surgical instrument sets, supplies, and linen packs. Organizes, maintains, and distributes sterile patient care items.
  • Assists the circulating nurse in preparing documentation, reports, and requests. Prepares specimens for laboratory transport.
  • Performs scrub duties in the operating room, ensuring the maintenance of sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment. Counts sponges, needles, instruments, and related items with the circulating nurse before, during, and after surgical procedures. Supports the surgical team by applying sterile drapes to the surgical field and passing instruments and supplies as needed.
  • Monitors and records vital signs, assists the surgeon and nursing staff in recovery room duties, and implements post-operative orders.
  • Engages in general clinic functions, preparing patients, instruments, supplies, and equipment for specialized procedures in the operating room and specialty clinics.
  • Aids nursing staff with preoperative patient preparation tasks.
  • Participates in training sessions on new procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Prepares the operating room for surgery by organizing and opening sterile supplies and instruments.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Performs other assigned duties as necessary.

SUPERVISORY ROLE:

No supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledgeable in anatomy and physiology fundamentals, aseptic principles, surgical instrumentation, and operating room procedures.
  • Completion of an accredited surgical service and clinical course.
  • Graduation from a surgical technologist program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
  • At least 12 months of experience as a surgical services technician within the last 36 months.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Red Cross.
  • Compliance with health screening and immunization requirements.
  • Security access and background checks as required.
  • Completion of all necessary documentation and certifications for the position.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English for effective communication with patients and healthcare providers.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with diverse groups to inform the healthcare team and educate patients and families.
  • Excellent written communication skills for accurate documentation in compliance with requirements.

WORK SCHEDULE:

As needed basis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Role involves prolonged sitting, manual dexterity, handling, reaching, speaking, and occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds. May require extended periods of office work with significant computer usage.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Primarily indoor work in a well-lit medical facility. Conditions may vary, requiring adaptability to a fast-paced environment. Exposure to various clients and potential health risks is expected.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Pay range: $30.00 to $34.57 per hour.
