About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide expert care to patients with behavioral and mental health needs in the Emergency Department and other practice settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care in assessment, management, and treatment plan development for behavioral and mental health patients in crisis.
  • Collaborate with the care team to ensure safe patient care and services.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Participate in lifelong learning and incorporate new knowledge into nursing practice.
Requirements
  • Minimum 1 year of psychiatric or behavioral health experience in the medical field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a clinical nurse in a medical inpatient/emergency department setting working with pediatric and adolescent patient populations.
  • Bachelor of Science in nursing preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two to three years of clinical nurse experience.
  • Experience in the emergency room setting.
  • Knowledge of normal/abnormal growth and development throughout the age continuum.
  • Previous experience with crisis management and de-escalation techniques and strategies.
Certification Summary
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia.
  • Completion of Marcus Crisis Prevention Program as a user and trainer.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Skills in coordination, delegation, and team collaboration.
  • Ability to remain calm and manage verbal/physical responses in stressful situations.
