Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The individual in this role is tasked with overseeing and embodying a parental figure through a therapeutic approach to nurture and support young individuals in a safe and caring home-like setting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position outlines the primary duties and expectations, which may not encompass all tasks. The incumbent may be required to perform additional job-related functions and possess specific knowledge and skills pertinent to the role.

  • Oversees and guides assigned personnel during designated shifts.
  • Provides direct emotional support and daily supervision for children aged 0-18 years.
  • Conducts initial evaluations and formulates treatment strategies; maintains accurate documentation and collaborates with Behavioral Health professionals.
  • Recognizes and addresses the needs and strengths of children; engages in case management to facilitate necessary services and interventions.
  • Responds to children's needs, including hunger and medical issues; facilitates transportation to appointments and assists children in acclimating to their new surroundings.
  • Imparts essential life skills to youth, including social interaction, self-care, academic support, and independent living skills.
  • Delivers crisis intervention while maintaining composure and emotional stability.
  • Maintains communication with internal and external personnel to share insights regarding youth behavior and progress.
  • Offers emotional and moral support, serving as a role model by demonstrating learned skills; fosters ongoing communication with youth.
  • Participates in court proceedings and meetings with educators and counselors on behalf of youth; supervises family visits.
  • Continuously supports academic achievement; monitors educational performance; assists with homework and provides transportation to extracurricular activities.
  • Prepares and keeps records of incidents involving youth.
  • Conducts routine maintenance of the residence; reports any repair needs to the supervisor; performs housekeeping tasks as required.
  • Enhances the effectiveness of the unit's services by contributing suggestions and actively participating as a team member.
  • Represents the organization with professionalism and integrity in all interactions with staff and the community.
  • Prepares financial reconciliation reports for youth-related purchases and submits them to the supervisor as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To succeed in this role, candidates must effectively fulfill each essential duty. The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

Education and Experience:

Associate's Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline; AND two (2) years of experience in child care; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of:

  • Fundamental principles and theories of social work and child development.
  • Basic counseling, assessment, case planning, and therapeutic crisis intervention techniques.
  • Identifying and addressing children's needs.
  • Relevant rules and regulations.
  • Record-keeping and reporting protocols.
  • Safety practices associated with the role.
  • Methods for engaging with children aged 0-18 years.
  • Standard office practices and procedures.
  • Behavior management principles for children.
  • Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Techniques for interacting with diverse individuals, especially in challenging situations.

Skill in:

  • Accurately observing and documenting children's behavior.
  • Maintaining detailed records of activities performed.
  • Creating clear and concise written reports.
  • Building supportive relationships with youth.
  • Exercising tact and discretion in professional interactions.
  • Effectively working with individuals from various backgrounds, both in person and over the phone.
  • Providing supervision, counseling, and crisis intervention to children aged 0-18 years within established guidelines.
  • Identifying and appropriately responding to unusual behaviors or emergencies involving youth.
  • Ensuring the safety and security of children and youth.
  • Participating in multi-disciplinary case discussions and assisting in the development and implementation of treatment plans.
  • Communicating effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Contributing positively to team goals and objectives.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:

Ongoing employment is contingent upon maintaining all necessary licenses and certifications in active status without suspension or revocation.

  • Nevada driver's license.
  • CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Qualified Behavioral Aide (QBA) certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Qualified Mental Health Aide (QMHA) certification within six (6) months of hire.

Mobility to work in both home and office settings, operate standard home appliances and office equipment; drive a vehicle to transport youth; ability to lift and carry children; vision to read printed materials; stamina to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; strength to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.

Work may involve exposure to adverse environmental conditions, hazardous materials, and extensive travel.
