Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The individual in this role is accountable for overseeing and delivering parental guidance through a therapeutic approach, ensuring a nurturing, supportive, and secure home-like atmosphere for youth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position outlines the primary duties and expectations, which may not encompass all tasks. The incumbent may be required to undertake additional job-related responsibilities and possess specific knowledge and skills pertinent to the role.

  • Oversees assigned personnel during designated shifts.
  • Provides direct care, emotional support, and daily supervision for children aged 0-18 years.
  • Conducts initial assessments and formulates treatment plans; maintains accurate documentation and collaborates with Behavioral Health professionals.
  • Identifies the needs and strengths of children; engages in case management to coordinate necessary services and interventions.
  • Responds to children's needs, including hunger and medical issues; facilitates transportation to appointments; assists children in acclimating to the facility; interprets and implements medical instructions.
  • Educates youth on social skills, self-care, academic success, independent living, problem-solving, personal hygiene, financial management, and job readiness to enhance their development.
  • Provides crisis intervention while maintaining emotional composure.
  • Maintains communication with internal and external staff to share information regarding youth behaviors, strategies, and progress.
  • Offers emotional and moral support; serves as a role model by demonstrating skills taught in the program; maintains ongoing communication with youth.
  • Attends legal proceedings and meetings with educators and counselors on behalf of youth; supervises family visits.
  • Supports academic achievement; monitors educational performance; assists with homework; provides transportation to extracurricular activities.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation and reports related to youth events.
  • Conducts routine maintenance of the residence; reports repair needs to supervisors; performs housekeeping tasks as required by licensing standards.
  • Enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's services by contributing suggestions and actively participating as a team member.
  • Represents the organization with professionalism, integrity, and a collaborative spirit in all interactions with staff and the community.
  • Prepares financial reconciliation reports for purchases and submits them to supervisors as needed; assists in managing funds allocated for youth clothing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To excel in this position, an individual must effectively fulfill each essential duty. The qualifications listed below reflect the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education and Experience:

An Associate's Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline; AND two (2) years of experience in child care; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of:

  • Fundamental principles and theories of social work and early childhood development.
  • Basic counseling, assessment, case planning, and therapeutic crisis intervention techniques.
  • Assessing and addressing children's needs.
  • Relevant rules and regulations.
  • Record-keeping and report-writing procedures.
  • Safety protocols related to the work environment.
  • Strategies for engaging with children aged 0-18 years.
  • Standard office practices and procedures.
  • Behavior management and modification principles for children.
  • Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Techniques for interacting with diverse individuals, especially in potentially confrontational situations.

Skill in:

  • Accurately observing, assessing, and documenting children's behavior.
  • Maintaining precise records of work performed.
  • Preparing clear and concise written reports.
  • Engaging youth and fostering supportive relationships.
  • Exercising tact, discretion, and prudence in interactions.
  • Effectively working with individuals from various socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, both in person and over the phone.
  • Providing effective supervision, counseling, and crisis intervention to children aged 0-18 years within established guidelines.
  • Identifying and appropriately responding to unusual behaviors, medical emergencies, or other atypical conditions concerning youth.
  • Ensuring the safety and security of children and youth.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary case conferences and assisting in the development, revision, and implementation of treatment plans.
  • Communicating effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Contributing positively to the achievement of team or work unit goals and objectives.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of work.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining all required licenses and certifications in active status without suspension or revocation.

  • Nevada driver's license.
  • CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Qualified Behavioral Aide (QBA) certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Qualified Mental Health Aide (QMHA) certification within six (6) months of hire.

Work may involve exposure to adverse environmental conditions, hazardous materials, biohazards, gases, dust, noxious odors, and extensive travel.
