Job Summary

ATC White Plains is seeking a highly skilled Registered Pharmacist to join our team as a Patient Care Specialist. In this role, you will provide indirect patient care under the general direction of the Director of Pharmacy Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review patient medication orders against medication profiles in accordance with hospital and pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with nurses, peers, physicians, and other healthcare team members to deliver pharmaceutical services to patients.
  • Utilize leadership and management skills to demonstrate a commitment to customer service, professional accountability, and growth.
  • Perform essential functions and responsibilities, including:
    • Understanding and adhering to performance standards, policies, and behaviors.
    • Utilizing all aspects of the pharmacy process to meet the age-specific needs of patients in medication education, safety, and patient rights.
    • Utilizing and monitoring methods of infection control, participating in the PI and Risk Management programs, and demonstrating competency by completing established standards.
    • Utilizing appropriate steps in the decision-making process, including recognition, data collection, priority setting, resource utilization, and offering suggestions through collaboration with the healthcare team.
    • Being productive through punctuality, observing time limits on breaks, using periods of low activity to the pharmacy/patient benefit, effective time management, and a consistent level of performance that ensures social/personal activities do not interfere with work.
    • Showing interest and commitment through attendance at in-services, participation in projects/PI, maturation towards own self-development, and maintaining current required license requirements.
    • Assuming accountability for completion of competency standards and accepting constructive criticism and following through to implement corrective measures.
    • Being cooperative and professional in response to change, assistance to peers, and effective communication among the healthcare team.
    • Being flexible in staffing and adjustment to assignments.
    • Maintaining a positive attitude with positive responses requiring conflict resolution.
    • Practicing cost containment measures.
    • Adhering to all policies and procedures, dress code, code of conduct, customer service, and meeting all mandatory in-services and standards for attendance.
    • Supervising pharmacy assistants.
    • Performing all other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited school of pharmacy with a minimum of a BS in pharmacy.
  • Current New York registration.
  • Successful completion of hospital and departmental orientation program, according to hospital and pharmacy policy and procedure.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment

May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS database can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.

Ability to act in a professional capacity and serve as a professional role model.

Communicate effectively in written and verbal English.

Position requires ability to ambulatory, sit/stand for extended periods of time, perform difficult manipulative arm-hand steadiness and hand-eye coordination skills. Must be physically able to meet all regulatory requirements.

Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruption and attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes at a time. Individual must be able to understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts and remember multiple tasks given during the course of a day.

Sees objects closely and far away and hears normal sounds with some background noises.

Tasks that involve exposure to chemotherapeutic agents. Requires the knowledge and use of Universal Precaution techniques.

Must be physically able to ambulate or be stationary for extended periods of time.

Must be able to perform word processing/computer work and use of transcription equipment for extended periods of time.

Use of coordination and dexterity to operate word processing, remove and install toners/ink, labels, etc.

Must be physically able to move, remove, and transport heavy objects more than 30 lbs.

Must have the ability to concentrate for extended periods of time and with distractions.

Perform repetitive functions.

Must be able to detect and communicate with internal and external customers as well as inspect deliveries for accuracy.
