Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy Services, the Registered Oncology Pharmacist delivers extensive pharmaceutical care while collaborating with our Infusion Center, Hematology Oncology Unit, and Oncology Physician Practice nursing teams.
This role involves direct interaction with Hematology/Oncology Physicians, Infectious Disease Physicians, and their patients. The Oncology Pharmacist's primary focus is on providing Clinical and Dispensing services tailored to our Hematology/Oncology practices and their patients. Additionally, the Oncology Pharmacist may offer Staff Pharmacist and IV services as required.
Key Responsibilities:
The Registered Pharmacist is responsible for reviewing medication orders against patient profiles in accordance with established hospital and pharmacy standards.
The Registered Pharmacist is dedicated to customer service, professional accountability, and continuous growth. Essential functions include:
- Adhering to WPH Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
- Utilizing the Pharmacy process to address the specific needs of oncology patients, focusing on medication education, safety, and patient rights.
- Implementing methods of Infection Control and participating in Performance Improvement and Risk Management programs.
- Engaging in effective decision-making processes, including data collection and collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Demonstrating punctuality and effective time management to ensure productivity.
- Participating in professional development through in-services and maintaining current licensure and knowledge in oncology.
- Staying informed about relevant federal, state, and hospital regulations.
- Supervising Pharmacy Assistants and performing additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be graduates from an accredited Pharmacy school with a minimum of a BS in Pharmacy. A valid NYS Pharmacist license and current New York registration are required, along with at least three years of hospital pharmacy experience. A minimum of three annual continuing education credits must focus on Chemotherapy/Oncology.
Oncology Certification by NYSCHP or BPS or an equivalent is preferred, along with experience in hematology oncology and infusion center operations.
Core Competencies:
Candidates should demonstrate effective communication skills, the ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations, and the capacity to act professionally while serving as a role model. They must also retain composure under stress and exhibit strong problem-solving skills.
Physical and Mental Demands:
Individuals may be exposed to chemicals necessary for performing required tasks. The role requires the ability to concentrate on fine details, perform manual dexterity tasks, and communicate effectively in both written and verbal English.
