The Noble and Jiang Laboratory is engaged in research that investigates the cellular and molecular pathways involved in lung inflammation and fibrosis, the function of lung stem cells in pulmonary fibrosis, and the mechanisms of host defense in lung-related conditions.

The Laboratory Research Associate I will undertake a variety of standard experimental protocols and procedures to support the goals of one or more research initiatives in a designated field. The RA I team member will be proficient in executing routine cellular and molecular biology techniques, which may include, but are not limited to, Western blotting, Northern blotting, DNA/RNA analysis, PCR, protein extraction, cell culture, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and staining. The incumbent will also assist with general laboratory operations, including the upkeep of reagents and inventory management, as well as documentation and monitoring of laboratory records. This role requires meticulous record-keeping of experiments and outcomes, assistance in the operation of specialized laboratory equipment, and adherence to safety protocols. This position does not entail supervisory duties.

Under guidance, the incumbent is expected to conduct in vivo experiments, such as mouse lung injury models and sample collection, as well as in vitro experiments, including cell culture, assessment of stem cell regenerative capacity, flow cytometry, mRNA analysis, protein analysis, and immunohistochemical studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • May assist with the care and management of laboratory animals.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment and associated documentation.
  • Handles, processes, and records samples.
  • Updates and maintains a computer database with pertinent clinical data.
  • Performs laboratory maintenance tasks, including cleaning and sterilizing glassware.
  • Manages inventory of laboratory supplies and places orders for necessary equipment and materials.
  • Provides assistance to new students and fellows in the laboratory.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline is required.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in a research laboratory is preferred.
  • Experience with tissue culture, animal handling, and molecular biology techniques is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with database management, personal computing, and presentation and imaging software is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in digital tools such as Excel and Word is essential.
