The Noble and Jiang Laboratory investigates the cellular and molecular pathways involved in lung inflammation and fibrosis, the function of lung stem cells in pulmonary fibrosis, and the mechanisms of host defense in lung-related conditions.
The Laboratory Research Associate I will engage in a variety of standard experimental protocols and procedures to support the goals of one or more research initiatives in a designated field. The RA I team member will be proficient in executing routine cellular and molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to Western blotting, Northern blotting, DNA/RNA analysis, PCR, protein extraction, cell culture, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and staining. The incumbent will assist with general laboratory operations, including the upkeep of reagents and inventory of supplies, as well as the organization and monitoring of documentation. This role requires maintaining accurate and detailed records of experiments and outcomes, aiding in the operation of specialized equipment, and adhering to safety protocols and procedures. This position does not entail supervisory duties.
Under guidance, the incumbent is expected to conduct in vivo experiments, including mouse lung injury models and sample collection, as well as in vitro experiments such as cell culture, assessment of stem cell regenerative capacity, flow cytometry, mRNA analysis, protein analysis, and immunohistochemical studies.
Key Responsibilities:
- May assist with the care of laboratory animals.
- Maintains laboratory equipment and associated records.
- Transports, processes, and logs biological samples.
- Maintains a computer database with pertinent clinical information.
- Performs laboratory maintenance tasks, including cleaning and sterilizing glassware.
- Ensures adequate supplies of general laboratory materials and places orders for equipment and consumables.
- Provides assistance to new students and fellows in the laboratory.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline is required.
Experience:
- Prior experience in a research laboratory is preferred.
- Experience with tissue culture, animal handling, and molecular biology techniques is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with database management, personal computing, and presentation and imaging software is beneficial.
- Proficiency in digital tools such as Excel and Word is essential.
