Job Summary

Children's Law Center is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Staff Attorney to join our Education Program team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in education law and a passion for advocating for the rights of low-income families.

The Staff Attorney will provide high-quality legal representation and assistance to parents and caregivers in education-related matters, including special education, school stability, and discipline. The candidate will also work closely with our Guardian ad Litem (GAL) team to provide technical assistance and legal consultations to GALs in the education arena.

The successful candidate will have excellent research and writing skills, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. A commitment to social, economic, and racial justice is essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct legal representation in education-related matters
  • Work with GALs to provide technical assistance and legal consultations
  • Conduct intakes with potential clients and provide advice and referral information
  • Develop and implement education-related resources and materials

Requirements:

  • JD and DC Bar membership or immediate eligibility to waive in
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in education law or a related field
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
