POSITION OVERVIEW

The Cardiac Catheterization Lab Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering direct patient care to individuals undergoing cardiac procedures. This role involves continuous communication with physicians to ensure patient safety throughout various interventions. Collaborating with Cardiology Service Leaders and Providers, the RN assesses, plans, implements, and coordinates care with other departments, ensuring that patient and family care aligns with the mission, vision, and values of CCH. The RN will also integrate departmental improvement goals across the care continuum.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver intensive, direct care to patients in the Cardiac Catheterization lab, assuming roles such as monitoring, circulating, and administering moderate sedation.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments and maintain accurate documentation in patient records.
  • Develop comprehensive, age-appropriate care plans addressing physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Implement care plans, delegate tasks appropriately, and ensure proper documentation of interventions.
  • Evaluate patient progress towards desired outcomes, adjust care plans as necessary, and intervene when required.
  • Educate patients and their families about health status, care plans, and expected outcomes.
  • Provide exceptional service to all patients and their families.
  • Exhibit effective time management and prioritization skills.
  • Maintain professional standards in clinical practice, staffing, and ongoing education.
  • Practice fiscal responsibility and accountability in all actions.
  • Actively participate in hospital committees, Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, and Quality Improvement Programs.
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • May be required to assist in other nursing units based on staff and patient distribution.
  • Assess and reassess patient pain levels, responding promptly to changes in condition.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and Cardiac Cath lab staff regarding patient conditions.
  • Manage cardiac catheterization lab supplies and inventory.
  • Assist in the documentation, storage, retrieval, and analysis of data from cardiovascular procedures.
  • Monitor, scrub, and/or circulate during cardiac catheterization procedures.
  • Function independently within the home department.
  • Adhere to the hospital's Corporate Compliance Program, including the Code of Conduct and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Maintain a clean record free from governmental sanctions related to healthcare or financial practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; this list is not exhaustive.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Licensure: Current Wyoming RN license.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years in Cath lab, ICU, or PACU nursing is preferred.
  • Certifications: Must meet Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy and other relevant certification requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to maintain continuing education and required certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, CPI, CPR). The RN operates within the framework of the Wyoming Nurse Practice Act and adheres to American Nurses Association standards.
  • Licensed professionals must uphold the ethical standards of their discipline.
  • Capable of assessing patient conditions, formulating care plans, selecting interventions, and evaluating patient responses.
  • Ability to manage high-stress situations during critical procedures.
  • Proficient in multitasking under pressure and frequent interruptions.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills with excellent concentration and memory.
  • Effective communication skills to foster positive interactions with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmental stages and the ability to apply relevant theories in patient care planning.
  • Must maintain current knowledge and skills across various age groups, including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
