Job Responsibilities and Qualifications

The HCA Nurse Residency Program at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center equips you with the necessary tools to thrive in today's healthcare environment. This compensated program will facilitate your transition from the classroom to practical application through a structured series of learning experiences, including:

  • Advanced clinical training in a specialized area.
  • Monthly educational workshops.
  • Preceptorship training with an assigned facility preceptor.
  • Skill assessment and evaluation through practical simulations.
  • Mentorship from experienced nursing leaders.
  • Collaborative work on an evidence-based practice project.

The RN Resident is responsible for coordinating and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in alignment with departmental requirements and consistent with the standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. Collaborating with medical providers and other care team members, the RN Resident offers individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care utilizing established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage." The RN Resident acts as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers to ensure an exceptional patient experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate patient conditions upon admission and during each scheduled shift, identifying and reporting any changes in status.
  • Execute procedures, monitoring, or other functions as directed by medical providers. Document care administration in the patient medical record promptly and thoroughly.
  • Administer prescribed medications, monitoring patients for therapeutic responses and intervening as necessary in the event of adverse reactions.
  • Deliver outstanding care by responding promptly to patient requests and proactively addressing their needs.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers regarding medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, potential side effects, and follow-up measures, ensuring clear understanding of complex medical terminology.

Qualifications Required:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 1 year of employment.
  • Other certifications may be required during employment.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse status in the State.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Some travel may be necessary for training purposes.
