Educational Support Specialist

SALARY: $21.89 per hour
DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the school administrator and/or the classroom instructor, the Para-Educator engages in a variety of activities aimed at enhancing the educational experience for students in one-on-one, small group, or classroom environments. Responsibilities include preparing instructional materials and implementing the curriculum as directed. The role also involves supervising students during before/after school activities, cafeteria time, and recess, along with other related tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of an Associate's degree or equivalent experience is required, or successful completion of the PRAXIS test. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred but not mandatory. Familiarity with iPads, PCs, and Chromebooks is advantageous. Strong communication skills and the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions are essential. The ideal candidate will be patient, adaptable, self-driven, possess positive interpersonal skills, and maintain a calm demeanor. The ability to connect effectively with elementary school students, parents, and staff is crucial. This position may require extended periods of sitting or standing, and consistent attendance and punctuality are vital.

BENEFITS:
Employees working 630 hours or more annually are eligible for health insurance benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability plans through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB). Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Paid leave benefits vary based on employment duration and include sick leave, personal leave days, and holidays. Tuition reimbursement is available for qualified expenses, covering 50% up to $450 per year. Benefits may be prorated based on the hire date and hours worked.
COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS:
The selected candidate, if not a current regular employee, will need to complete an INS I-9 form and provide proof of employment eligibility prior to commencing work. Additionally, a disclosure form regarding any past convictions against persons will be required, along with a background check based on fingerprints from the Washington State Patrol and FBI. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of this record check.
