About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operations Manager to join our team at Netflix. As a key member of our Live Broadcast Operations team, you will be responsible for managing day-to-day global live-streaming operations, coordinating and executing live-focused initiatives, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution of live events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Event Coordination: Partner with stakeholders and clients to ensure smooth execution of live-streaming events, including coordination with contractors and in-house engineers for transmission planning.
  • Partnership Development: Establish and maintain partnerships with satellite and IP transmission vendors, hardware and broadcast companies, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Technical Planning: Collaborate with teams to develop and execute technical plans that align with Netflix's creative and technical objectives, managing concurrent schedules and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Infrastructure Management: Monitor and manage cloud-based and hardware-based video infrastructure, providing analysis and remediation of any issues in the video workflow.
  • Emerging Technologies: Monitor the industry for emerging technologies and develop trends to keep Netflix live on the cutting edge.
  • Feature Development: Work closely with teams to enable new feature development, figuring out how the feature affects overall operations and how to make it work at scale.
  • Launch Support: Be present on launch days at Network Operations Center (NOC) or ground ingest facilities as required.
  • Travel and Flexibility: Must have flexibility to travel for scheduled live events and work with flexible hours based on the live events schedule.
Requirements
  • Experience: 5+ years of broadcast remote operations experience in a coordination or supervisory role, preferably at a network level.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of digital audio/video fundamentals, compression technologies, distribution formats, and associated technologies such as Multicast and Unicast video distribution, MPEG Video (2,4, & HEVC), MPEG-2 TS, HDR, SCTE-35 & ESNI signaling, closed-captions, satellite video distribution, and ad-splicing.
  • Video Transport Protocols: Experience with video transport protocols such as SDI, SMPTE-2110, RTP, RTMP, SRT, Zixi, RIST, HLS, MPEG-DASH.
  • Audio and Video Compression: Proficient in Video and Audio Compression technology.
  • Remote Production: Understanding of nuances of remote production and the on-site technical operation, knowledge of remote production facilities and equipment vendors.
  • OTT Video Distribution: Deep understanding of MVPD-based linear ecosystem and working knowledge of OTT video distribution, contribution technology, and architecture.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to assess and troubleshoot video and audio quality.
  • Cloud-Based Infrastructure: Experience with cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Programming Languages: Experience with at least one programming language (Java, Go, Python).
  • Unix and Shell Scripting: Experience with Unix (or unix-based systems), shell scripting, and good SQL knowledge.
  • Web Technologies: Experience with web technologies and distributed systems with microservices architecture.
