This is a Full-Time opportunity in the realm of IT Services / Systems Administration / Digital Media Systems.

The Senior Broadcast Systems Engineer will take the lead in overseeing the technology and operations at LA 411, specifically focused on the execution of live broadcast productions.

This position entails managing a team of Broadcast Engineers, event staff, freelancers, vendors, and clients to ensure the successful production and delivery of numerous high-quality live events.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, be collaborative, and communicate effectively, with a focus on resolving real-time challenges and formulating long-term technology strategies.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the strategic planning and implementation of broadcast technology deployment and maintenance.
  • Oversee all aspects of broadcast engineering, including infrastructure and live event support.
  • Provide direct engineering support for live broadcasts, acting as the primary contact for Production and Transmission teams.
  • Assist in managing broadcast engineering budgets, capital planning, expense tracking, and vendor relations, while identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
  • Provision and maintain physical equipment for both facility and field operations, including assembly, racking, cabling, and electrical setups.
  • Define, document, and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices.
  • Be available for 24/7 emergency response and management.
  • Develop and lead a team of Broadcast Engineers, freelancers, and other personnel to ensure high-quality event production and successful delivery to clients.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Limited travel may be required.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of five years of experience in an engineering or broadcast maintenance environment.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in IP technology and broadcast technology design and support, particularly for At-Home (REMI) production models.
  • Familiarity with various technologies, including hardware and cloud-based CODECs (e.g., Nevion, Evertz, Haivision, AWS/Elemental) utilizing J2K, H.264, HEVC, HLS, RTMP, RTP-FEC, SRT, RIST, ZIXI.
  • Experience in managing and troubleshooting production control room and studio infrastructure, including video routing, switchers, audio consoles, intercom systems, graphics, and MAM.
  • Proficient in setting up and configuring file-based workflow systems.
  • Basic networking skills, including router and switch configuration, traceroute, ping, and nmap.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux and Windows server administration.
  • Exposure to key AWS services (S3, EC2, Cloudfront, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Google applications (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, etc.).
  • Experience with project management tools such as Jira.
  • Strong relationship management and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Willingness to be on-call to address escalated issues.
  • Ability to lift and transport Audio/Visual equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for various broadcast and event needs.
  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science, broadcast, or a related field is preferred.
  • A genuine interest and knowledge in sports is advantageous.
