Position Summary:


The Clinical Support Specialist delivers professional medical care to patients undergoing treatments and evaluations in an outpatient clinical environment, working under the guidance of the attending provider and practice office manager.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluates the patient's overall health status and records vital signs and weight.
  • Assists the provider during examinations, diagnostic tests, and treatments, including phlebotomy, injections, suturing, and other standard office procedures.
  • Administers medications as prescribed by the provider, ensuring correct dosage, route, and documentation.
  • Trains and orients new personnel as necessary.
  • Provides fundamental patient care as directed.
  • Ensures timely receipt and communication of test results to patients.
  • Exhibits sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy by applying effective communication techniques.
  • Records all interventions, patient and family responses, and medications in the medical record accurately.
  • Encourages wellness by distributing educational materials and conveying provider instructions.
  • Consults with the provider regarding patient inquiries and appointment urgency.
  • Maintains adequate supply levels and ensures equipment is well-kept.
  • Monitors the accuracy of patient medical records and maintains necessary reports and statistics.
  • Upholds confidentiality regarding the practice, its patients, and staff.
  • Utilizes various office and medical equipment, including telephones, computers, fax machines, stethoscopes, EKG machines, and basic lab tools.
  • Keeps the work area clean and sanitary.
  • Ensures equipment is maintained in a clean and functional state.
  • Handles referrals and pre-certifications as required.
  • May schedule patient appointments as directed by the provider.
  • Communicates with hospitals and nursing homes to relay pertinent information to practitioners promptly.
  • Collaborates with patients, physicians, and other care team members to enhance overall patient care.
  • Adheres to policies, procedures, and safety standards, completing required educational assignments annually and participating in quality improvement initiatives as needed.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education:


No specific educational requirements; however, must meet the standards for obtaining the necessary license and/or certification as mandated by the certifying authority.


Minimum Experience:
At least one (1) year of experience as a certified Medical Assistant from a recognized certifying organization.

Licensure Requirement:
Certification as a Medical Assistant from a recognized certifying organization is required. American Heart Association BLS certification is also necessary.
