The GoWest Credit Union Association is seeking a Vice President of Legislative Affairs to spearhead advocacy initiatives for credit unions across Arizona. We are in search of a candidate with a proven track record in strategic planning, execution, and the ability to navigate complex political environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advocate effectively for credit union interests at the Arizona State Legislature and among executive-level elected officials.
- Oversee the formulation and execution of lobbying strategies in collaboration with Association staff and external lobbyists.
- Develop and advance beneficial legislation for Arizona credit unions through collaboration with lobbyists, committees, and task forces.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key state legislators and executive officials.
- Monitor emerging legislative trends and industry developments to inform policy statements and agendas.
- Lead the Arizona Government Affairs Committee and relevant work groups to set a proactive advocacy agenda.
- Enhance grassroots and grasstops initiatives to strengthen advocacy efforts and address critical issues.
- Serve as treasurer for AZ-CUPAC, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with grassroots teams to support candidates who align with credit union interests in elections.
- Act as a representative voice for Arizona credit union members within the Association and with external stakeholders.
- Engage directly with credit unions in local communities and represent the Association at key events.
- Regularly communicate with credit union members to prioritize state-specific issues and ensure alignment with Association actions.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, a deep understanding of complex legislative matters, and a background in lobbying or public policy. Experience in the financial sector is advantageous. A four-year degree in political science or a related field, or equivalent experience, is required. Candidates should have five to seven years of experience in lobbying, public policy, or grassroots coordination, with a minimum of three years working directly with state legislatures.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is between $88,000 and $110,000, commensurate with experience. This role is eligible for a variable pay program with potential earnings of up to 10% of the base salary. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability coverage. Employees are eligible for a 401k plan and accrue vacation and paid time off, along with paid holidays.
